The science.gmu.edu computers in S&T I 228 ------------------------------------------ There are two sets of computers in this network, the SGIs and the NeXts. For some things the access is totally transparent; for other things it is not. A program on one machine can be run from any other machine of the same binary type, but not from a machine of the other type; therefore, sometimes it is necessary to login to a machine of a particular type. Logging in directly from a console in 228 puts you on the machine you're logging in from. Logging in remotely may require you to specify a machine name. If no machine name is specified, currently you login to vanish.science.gmu.edu, which is an SGI machine. Some NeXt machines are theorem.science and axiom.science. The machines use "Yellow Pages". This means, among other things, that your password is changed by yppasswd.
